Thinking Greenway/Minnehaha/Fort Snelling ride today.
Btw Minnehaha means “laughing waters.” It’s also where Minneapolis gets its name. “Minnehapolis” was suggested in 1852 by Charles Hoag.
With the “h” dropped, Minneapolis won over contenders like Winona, Albion, West St. Anthony, and All Saints.
Another suggestion was to name it Lowell after Lowell, Massachusetts.
Minnehaha: “The name is often incorrectly said to mean “laughing water”, though in reality it translates to “waterfall” or “rapid water” in Dakota.”
